Robert Emery started playing the piano at the age of seven and has studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Stephen Coombs, Heather Slade-Lipkin and most recently at the Royal College of Music with Ruth Nye.
He made his highly acclaimed London Debut when he was only thirteen, performing
at the Purcell Rooms, and in the same year, he performed Gershwin's Rhapsody
in Blue with the Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestra. He won the Regional
Finals of the BBC Young Musician and the Year in two successive years and gained
the Fraser Wood Mayo and Pinson award, representing the West Midlands in the
Leeds Millennium Festival of the Performing Arts.
He recorded his debut album Enlightening at the age of 16, and in the
summer of 2002 and 2003, Robert embarked on a hugely successful tour of thirty
two different venues across the UK with the concert series, Robert Emery: A
Classical Experience. His second album, Robert Emery: Live in Concert,
led to him performing at many prestigious events around the country, including
the International Arts Festival at the NEC Birmingham, and Stafford Music
Festival 2003/04/05/07.
Robert has now worked with some of the profession’s biggest names, including
Tony Hatch, Geoffrey Skidmore, Bob Chilcott and Sir Simon Rattle. He has
performed privately to several members of the Royal Family, has given a special
recital for Members of Parliament in the historic Westminster Hall and was a
soloist for the annual Red Cross 'Royal Gala Ball' at the prestigious Mansion
House, London.
His continuing relationship with celebrity music professor Ruth Nye – who herself was taught by Claudio Arrau – means that Robert is also a teaching descendant of Liszt, Beethoven and Mozart.
